Very good but a couple of suggestions

This app is by far the best out of all Ive tried. I have a couple of thoughts : Would be nice to be able to select how many notes to display for the reverse keyboard identification section - this can help people practice reading notes in advance, which is a big part of reading music - viewing some sequence of notes rather than one at a time, help identify sequences of intervals and play accordingly. Maybe something like a scrolling 3-6 notes on the staff where the middle highlighted note is the one that the student needs to identify, but the student can at the same time get ready for the next leap For reverse note keyboard identification, being able to after specifying a range of notes, select which notes in particular to omit or include Sometimes students know which set of notes they have trouble with. For example students can select middle f,g and D3,A3 only and practice reading only those notes selected For reverse note identification - collect stats on Which notes the student gets wrong so they know which notes they have problems with reading and so they can focus more on studying those notes specifically

Buy It! So helpful in so many ways!

Spend the few dollars and pick it up. If you use it, you are bound to improve in many areas of music. Its fabulous, ear training, keyboard to note identification, fretboard stuff for guitar, intervals, etc...Its super useful! I love it :)

Not worth it

This app is a glorified note/interval/chord quiz app with no timer, movement, or any other aspect to keep it interesting. It offers no explanation of why or how the app arrived at a given answer, so its of little value to someone new to music theory. It also uses note names you will never encounter in music like C-flat and E-sharp. You can find decent note quiz apps for free in the App Store. Maybe its of more use to advanced students with the accidental calculator, whatever that is, but I doubt it. If youre that advanced, youre probably past the need for note/interval/chord quizzes. At $4 this app is over priced.

Makes learning music a snap

I never thought learning music could be so easy. This is a well thought out approach to learning music. I highly recommend this app to anyone who thought music would be difficult to learn.

Excellent resource!

Ive read the other reviews and I completely agree that theres all sorts of things we could suggest to change in this app, however I have found it to be wonderful just as it is! My students always become more engaged when I use gadgets i.e. iPhone/iPad so when Im reinforcing key signatures, intervals, note identification etc I really enjoy using this app. My favorite success story is when I assigned a certain number of key signature identification problems for one 10 year old student, I set the parameters to include just sharp keys, and told him to go home and work on it. Around 9:30 that evening, I received a progress report sent through the app from the student letting me know that he ha successfully answered 58/60 questions correctly. It was great! rachelviolin.com

Use it in college all the time

I am a sophomore voice performance major at West Texas A&M. Our program has a high expectation that students become able to read music at the speed of music. I used this app in my music theory classes to quickly learn chord spelling and recognition. I still use most of the features in the app just to keep my skills sharp. This app absolutely made a difference for me getting through Music Theory I and passing with a high grade because of the ability to drill specific areas in a very customized fashion. Great app.

Incredibly useful

This app is the best ear training tool Ive come across after a good amount of searching. What makes it so great is that you can customize the skill challenges in so many different parameters. You can focus down to distinguishing between just two intervals or find weaknesses by testing the entire range. You can have it play intervals harmonically or melodically. The combinations are unlimited. Love this. Making all students download and practice. Theyll all be better musicians for it.

If you want to learn music, get this app!

Ive always wanted to learn how to read sheet music, I tried many times to get myself to sit down and focus enough to do it, But to no avail… This app finally made it possible! This app has great exercises to help you memorize where notes are on the staff and to train your ear to identify notes and much more! I highly recommend it!

Dont miss this one if you want to further your musicianship

I recommend this app to all my students and use it myself at times to sharpen up some skills. There is a ton of content here, which is customizable to target weak spots. (Such as ledger lines) I taught my 8 year old daughter treble clef in one sitting, using concepts then this app for practice. She was amazed that she can now read the staff on her own. Get this and Rhythm Sight Reading trainer and you can have some real musicianship in the bag. Humbly, there is some room for expansion. I would like to see a rhythm or melodic dictation feature added. Also, the chord recognition is very much classical harmony. Why not expand to include more extended or jazz harmony? 6th, 6/9, 9th chords, altered harmonies, suspended...all of these sounds are part of the musical palette that should not be overlooked. Great app as is, look no further folks!

Great

This app is perfect for memorizing the fretboard!!! The only thing I wish it had is a built in metronome.

Excellent

Super easy to use, fantastic variety of note reading and ear training exercises.

Great for beginners

The main reason I purchased this app was to learn to read music better. With that said, I was severely disappointed to learn that you cant name the enharmonic pitches in the note identification exercises without getting counted wrong. Seeing as that is, in my opinion, something worth being able to do quickly, I would expect to be able to do that.

FANTASTIC app!

This is without question the first music training app I recommend to and use with our students. It is extremely helpful, and the students find it engaging and very easy to use!

Great tool!

Perfect Aural skill builder. Love this app.

Addictive

I love this app - very addictive and effective in helping you impress ve ears and eyes. Wish there would an alto sax fingering exercise though.

All you need

I recommend this to all of my music students. You must download this...its very user friendly and has any exercise you would ever need. I always pull it out if Im just sitting around and it keeps that theory muscle strong.

Finally got the motivation to learn music theory

This app has finally made learning music theory easy enough for me to be consistent and make progress. I am so grateful for it! The app is fluid and intuitive as well as feature rich. It is obvious that the developer(s) put a lot of thought and effort into it.

Great for Fretboard Note id

Used the online version for a while. Liked the challenge on fretboard note identification so decided to buy app. Has really been a help. Lately Ive been using the interval section to help strengthen my knowledge in that area.

Phenomenal app

If you are serious at all about furthering your musical education, this app is a must. Easily organized and incredibly useful.
